iOS 27 Is Here: What Changes, and Who Can Use Siri AI?

Apple began rolling out iOS 27 on September 14, 2026, bringing a new round of software changes to iPhone. Siri AI is one of the headline additions, but installing the update and getting every new intelligence feature are separate questions. Your device, language and region still matter.

What changes in iOS 27?

Apple’s software release announcement highlights improvements to everyday responsiveness, search and connectivity, alongside updated parental controls. It also introduces more control over the appearance of Liquid Glass. Apple’s performance figures come from its own tests; they should not be read as a guaranteed improvement on every iPhone.

Siri AI arrives as an English-language beta

According to Apple’s Siri AI launch announcement, the redesigned assistant can use personal context from messages, email and photos, understand content on the screen, and handle more actions across apps. Apple describes tasks such as drafting an email and working with photos. These are announced capabilities, not results from our own hands-on testing.

The rollout starts in English. Apple says French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support will follow in October. Its broader Apple Intelligence language list should therefore not be confused with the languages available for Siri AI at launch.

Check the hardware and regional limits

Apple lists iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 models or later among the supported iPhones for Apple Intelligence, with iPhone Air and iPhone Duo also named in its platform announcement. An iOS upgrade alone does not establish eligibility.

Siri AI is initially unavailable on iPhone in the European Union. Apple also says the new intelligence features are unavailable in China while it addresses regulatory requirements. Some features that use server-side models have daily usage limits, and Apple plans paid expanded access in the future.

How to check for the update

Before installing, make a backup using iCloud or a computer. Connect the iPhone to power and Wi-Fi, then open Settings → General → Software Update. Follow the installation options shown for your device. Apple’s official update instructions also cover updating through a computer if the wireless update does not appear.

For anyone upgrading mainly for Siri AI, the useful first check is eligibility: confirm the supported hardware, language and region before expecting the new assistant. For everyone else, judge iOS 27 by the changes available on their own phone rather than the full launch feature list.
