Apple released iOS 27.0.1 on September 28 with fixes for several problems that surfaced after iOS 27 launched. The update targets unexpected restarts on iPhone 18 Pro models, a specific camera color artifact, and a touchscreen freeze that can affect other iPhones too. It is available now through Settings, General, Software Update.
What iOS 27.0.1 fixes
The most urgent item for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max owners concerns Face ID. Apple says either model may restart unexpectedly when Face ID fails to authenticate. An update that stops a phone from rebooting during an ordinary unlock attempt matters more than a cosmetic tweak, especially for people who have already seen the problem.
Apple also lists a color artifact in photos taken at 2x under certain lighting conditions at f/1.48. The company describes this as affecting a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max devices. It has not said that every camera issue on the new phones shares the same cause.
A broader touchscreen fix
The third named fix addresses an unresponsive touchscreen when Notification Center and Control Center open at the same time. Unlike the two Pro-specific items, Apple does not limit this one to the latest hardware. The published release notes summarized by 9to5Mac list all three changes and confirm that iPadOS 27.0.1 is available as well.
Should you install it today?
If your iPhone already runs iOS 27, this is a sensible maintenance update. Make a current backup, connect to Wi-Fi and power if needed, then open Settings, General, Software Update. Read the version number before you tap Update Now. The download and restart time will vary by device and connection.

What the notes do not say
The three named fixes are specific. They do not mention every complaint reported since the iPhone 18 launch. In particular, owners following our report on AT&T connection problems should not assume iOS 27.0.1 resolves carrier activation or service loss. Check that issue separately with the carrier and watch for an explicit Apple or AT&T update.
